Introduction
Los Angeles is the most populous California city. It is also the second most United States
populous city after New York. Its population is estimated to be about four million. It is not only
the commercial center but also the financial and cultural center of the western coast. The city is
nicknamed as the city of angels due to the Spanish meaning of its name. This city is popularly
known for its ethnic diversity, Mediterranean climate, the entertainment industry, and
Hollywood. It is also known its sprawling metropolis (History, 2014, p. 23).
Los Angeles city is found in a large basin that is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on one of
its sides and mountains that are as high as 10,000 feet on the other side. The seat of Los Angeles
County is the city proper which covers about 1,210 km squared. Within the United States, Los
Angeles is one of the most economical engines. It has got a diverse economy in a board range of
cultural and professional fields. Hollywood has highly contributed to the popularity of Los
Angeles (Pulido, Barraclough, & Cheng, 2012, p. 45). This is because Hollywood offers the
primary center for the entertainment industry. It is also one of the global cities in the world has it
is ranked at position six in the Global Cities Index. Concerning Global economic Power index,
the city is ranked position nine.
People.
Concerning the people living in this city, the city is composed of a diverse and
multiethnic population. This is what makes it be seen as a cultural hub of the Pacific Rim. The
city is made up of people from over one hundred and forty countries. There are over two hundred
and twenty-two different languages that have so far been identified. All these languages currently

call Los Angeles home. However, the city does not have the majority population in the United
States.
Geography
The city spans a vast geographic area that is primarily a desert basin. This area is on one side
surrounded by San Gabriel range. It is also divided by Santa Monica Mountains. The county of
Los Angeles has got a coastline of seventy-five miles. The attitudes of this city range from 9 feet
below sea level. There are several rivers like San Gabriel, Rio Hondo and Santa Clara that are
found in this city.
Climate
The climate of southern California has for so long been described as perfect. This has been done
for excellent reasons. Most days in this region are not only warm but also sunny. During
summer, the climate in this area is gentle due to the ocean breeze (Roman, 2015, p. 13). The
humidity, on the other hand, is low especially with rain. This makes all the seasons in this area
pleasant.
Modern industries.
Los Angeles city leads in owning leisure and hospitality industries. This has recorded great
creation of job opportunities which represents a 4.4% increase from 2015 to 2016. In addition to
this, tourism, entertainment, and fashion industry have rapidly grown due to the diversified
economy and modern technology. It is the home to the largest port complex in the western
hemisphere. Los Angeles is the best county in the United States with the most significant number
of creating jobs.

Higher education
The city has 113 accredited universities and colleges. These include highly prestigious
institutions that have students from all over the world, i.e., University of Southern California
among others. The institutions are highly competitive and offer quality education to the learners.
This can be proved by a highly recorded number of youths who travel to the city to quench the
thirst of knowledge.
Expansive transportation network.
Los Angeles city has an advanced and modern transport system that makes its huge population
travel with ease. It has Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) that operates various airports
around the city. Each airport is built into international status. It’s quite impressive that the city
has the seventh busiest passenger airport in the world called Los Angeles International. The city
has new roads with superhighways that have eased traffic around the city.
Arts and Culture.
The city is home to more than 105 museums, 225 theatres, 16 of the most beautiful gardens in
the world and various magnificent structures. It has the most number of museums and theatres
more than any other city in the United States. This is the home of the American culture.
Conclusion
These and among many factors like the excellent meeting space, comprehensive outdoor
recreation center, large hotel market, and an enormous shopping center have made Los Angeles

city to be the next destination of the world. It’s a quite expensive city in the world which any
sane dreamer should think about setting a foot.
