The German philosopher Carl G. Hempel published his work, the Raven
Paradox, in 1965. In it, he pointed out certain flaws in the scientific
method. In particular, he questioned the validity of inductive reasoning,
generalization, and falsifiability. In addition, he claimed that the
scientific method was prone to bias.
Through the use of his raven paradox, he argues that if a researcher
makes the careful observation, on the basis of his frequent visits to the
countryside, that each and every raven that he has seen is black, and if,
on the basis of this observation, he suggests, through the use of inductive
reasoning, the hypothesis that all ravens are black, then this will be
accepted as an ideal hypothesis.
