A teacher may have both direct and indirect effects on their
students. Children’s socialization may be aided by a good role model,
clear communication of expectations, and positive reinforcement of
appropriate behavior, all of which the adult can provide. The opportunity
exists for the teacher to bring about desired behavioral changes in the
pupils because of the instructor’s role as a facilitator of students’
socialization into the learning environment. When she or he interacts
with the students, their job shifts from that of a teacher to one that is
more expansive.
The responsibility of teachers as agents of change extends beyond
the confines of the classroom and the students they teach. It spreads
beyond the confines of the school and into the surrounding community.
Teachers have the ability and the responsibility to reach out to their
communities and raise awareness about a variety of topics, including the
importance of maintaining healthy habits, the rights of children, the
education of girls, the empowerment of women, gender equality, the
protection of the environment, the effective use of technology, peace,
democracy, and socialism, amongst others.
