Overview
Limited healthcare is an issue that most Americans encounter, and it has become a
major concern in the country and worldwide. This issue prevents people from
accessing healthcare systems, making it difficult for them to receive medical care
and achieve their overall wellness. Various factors cause the problem. These
factors are transportation barriers, shortage of healthcare providers, limited
education concerning care sites, and availability of healthcare facilities, among
others. For instance, transportation barriers can keep people from accessing
healthcare facilities. Most patients with financial issues and who cannot obtain
transportation often live without care. Lack of education about care sites is an
obstacle to access to healthcare since it may lead people to the wrong healthcare
facility. People cannot access care if facilities are not available. Lack of enough
healthcare facilities contributes to limited access to care. The topic has drawn my
attention since most Americans, and people from other parts of the world struggle
to access healthcare. The issue has escalated rapidly since many people cannot
afford to pay for healthcare services. Healthcare services have increasingly become
more expensive every day, making it difficult for people to access them. Thus, the
upsurge of limited access to healthcare among people has increased my urge to
find more information about the issue and its effect and causes. I have no
professional experience concerning limited access to healthcare.
To search for scholarly articles in the PubMed database, I used the following
criteria. I logged into the database; on the home page, I clicked on clinical queries,
the fourth option in the PubMed tools, entered the topic terms and clicked on the
search box. These articles are credible since they were published between 2017 and
2021, meaning their information is current. Additionally, the authors have cited
credentials, and the information found in them is relevant to the topic. The
information found in these sources expounds more on limited access to healthcare.
They create awareness to researchers on what causes this issue and its effects on
people.

The rationale of this article is to provide information on factors affecting access to
healthcare for individuals with disabilities in rural places. Persons with disabilities
encounter obstacles that impede them from access to healthcare. According to the
article, this issue is further intensified for those with disabilities in local areas. The
key finding illustrates that limited availability of healthcare services, facilities, and
low quality of care are some of the factors increasing this issue. Also, the obstacle
of geographic distance was increased by transportation issues. Lastly, the authors
observed that in areas where healthcare amenities were accessible, individuals
were unable to carter for the expense. Therefore, the information from this article
is relevant since it explains more on the topic. Besides, the researcher gets more
information and be well informed on factors that affect access to healthcare for
people with disabilities.

North: important insights for health professionals. International Journal of
Circumpolar Health, 78(1), 1571385.

The purpose and rationale of this article are to identify the obstacles to healthcare
access and delivery among people in Circumpolar. Limited access to healthcare
might present problems that can affect people’s actual health treatment and impact
their capability to take care of their health and well-being. Factors like
geographical barriers, limited healthcare providers, and language obstacles were a
challenge to healthcare accessibility among people found in the Circumpolar
region. Therefore, the article is useful for researchers since they can learn what
causes limited access to healthcare in this region. Besides, the information from
this article is relevant and Significant to the topic because it expounds more on
what limits people when it comes to matters concerning access to healthcare.

Affect Healthcare Utilization. In www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. National Academies

This article aims to identify the elements that influence or hinder people from
utilizing healthcare services. Individuals use healthcare services to ameliorate,
diagnose and cure injury or disease, know their health status and prognosis, or
enhance and maintain their functionality. According to the article, numerous
4
factors can affect healthcare accessibility, even if care is available. For instance,
the availability of healthcare practitioners, the capability of the patient to pay for
the services, and the arrangement of transportation to where the healthcare facility
is located are some factors causing this issue. The other factors that were found to
increase this issue were poverty and geographic barriers, among others. These
factors were found to be a barrier to access to healthcare for many people. This
article’s information is significant because it explains deeply the factors limiting
access to healthcare. Thus, researchers can find the information helpful since they
can learn more about these factors.

healthcare services on emergency room visits. A comparison between physical and
mental health conditions. PLOS ONE, 13(8), e0202559.
https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0202559
The rationale of this article is to offer information about the impact of limited
access to healthcare services on emergency rooms (ERs). Many healthcare
facilities across the world are experiencing pressure because of increasing patients
presentations and ER admissions. This pressure is caused by limited access to
healthcare services, resulting in an undertreated health issue that can escalate the
condition to a critical level. The authors found that inadequate access to healthcare
services in ERs can be a disaster to people’s health. This issue can even cause
death if a patient is unable to access these services. Also, they find that this issue
upsurges the ER rates. The significance of this article is that it explains in detail the
effect of inadequate access to healthcare services, which is related to the topic. The
information provided by the article is of importance to the researchers since they
can learn more about what effects limited access to healthcare services into ERs
can have on people and their country as well.
I learned various things when developing this annotated bibliography. This type of
essay starts with sources, followed by annotations. One should state how the
articles used in research whether they are helpful in research. Also, I find that those
articles should be relevant to the topic one is researching on. The main points I
learned from the research on limited access to healthcare are its causes and effects.
Its causes include the cost of care services, lack of healthcare providers,
transportation barriers, and geographical obstacles. I have also learned that it is a
major issue in America and across the world. These articles can contribute to
educating people and healthcare professionals on factors that cause limited access
5
to healthcare. They add more information on existing literature concerning this
issue. Their information has broadened my understanding of the topic since they
have more data explaining in deep on the subject of the research. They have
increased my knowledge about what hinders people from accessing healthcare.
Briefly, I have learned several things from this research. The research has made me
know the main causes of limited access to healthcare, such as the cost of the
services. Furthermore, the research has given me an insight into the effects of this
issue on people’s health. For instance, an individual’s health may worsen due to
lack of care, leading to death. The issue is a threat to people’s health, and it has
become a major problem worldwide.
