Augmentation & Modification Reflection Task
The SAMR is a model of a framework for integrated classroom techniques. The term
SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition which are giving a
spectrum of usage of technology along with the traditional mode of teaching (Power School,
2021). Further in this paper is a brief explanation of the SMAR Model along with its
components.
Enhancement
The phase of the spectrum includes Substitution and Augmentation which are explained as
follow:
•
Substitution: The traditional teaching mode has been completely substituted by
technology, where a teacher or the lecturer uses different modes of technology to conduct
their lectures like PowerPoint presentations, slides, instead of using any hard copy or
book (Power School, 2021). For exams and assignments, online paper and Microsoft
word are used for typing rather than a pen and paper to write on.
•
Augmentation: Augmentation includes the use of technology along with the significant
use of students’ experiences and skills which will ultimately be increasing the student’s
productivity and potential in technology (Power School, 2021). Students use a video clip
or any link of relevant work to explain their point of presentation.
Transformation
•
Modification: It refers to taking control over using technology. Just like presented in the
blog, students are making their graphics, videos, and necessary designs to clear their
point of presentation (Power School, 2021). Students’ creativity is utilized to master the
technology and add up their efforts to learn.
REFLECTION TASK
•
2
Redefining: It includes the redefining of new studies and knowledge using the
technology in your way.
Practicality of SAMR
All the factors mentioned above are separately suitable in different conditions of teaching
and presenting. Especially, in the phase of covid-19, the usage of technology for education
became crucial. The SAMR model gives a direction to the teachers and the learners to use
technology for educational purposes.
Plan to Use
I will use this model in my teaching method if I have to deliver the lecture to the students.
I will be using Substitution (according to the condition that whether there is a need to do so or
not) and augmentations as well because I would like to use my own experiences, skills, and
methodology. I would also prefer the transformation phase, in which I will assign the students
assignments and presentations to make them understand the use of technology innovatively and
increase their creativity.
