Couple therapy edited 1 edited
It is normal to disagree with each other as a couple. Occasional conflict is part of life for a
married couple where they have children or are yet to. These conflicts arise due to
misunderstandings in daily life affairs. In this case, the couple is angry at each other due to
misunderstanding on family commitment to start a family. The wife claims that for about 45
years of marriage, the husband won’t commit to starting a family with her. The husband is
against the claim and says that his wife’s way of talking is what he can’t tolerate.
A therapist working with this couple needs the patience to diagnose the cause factor of the
misunderstanding by giving each time and space to respond to the issue at the table. Give both a
chance to explain why they need a therapist or what brought them to a therapist, and ask them
why they need help. Therefore this will calm them down, and they will speak in turns. The
therapist will be able to ask questions in the manner that they will answer in that order.
