Nevertheless, such interpretations of “what is going on here” can never
be called “right” or “true” for anybody other than the specific individual
performing the interpreting. What is’really’ happening on is contingent
upon the perspective from which one observes the situation. Everyone
perceives the world around them in their own unique way. We conduct
ourselves in a manner that we believe to be proper. Our perception of
what constitutes proper conduct is heavily influenced by how we
interpret the actions of other people. It is therefore not at all implausible
that other people, in exactly the same social situations as ourselves,
would have interpreted the behavior around them to mean something
very different, and as a result, would have pursued very different courses
of action compared to what we did. This is because the behavior around
them could have been interpreted to mean anything.
