Democratic method
In addition, because the democratic method of leadership was utilized,
the members of the organization were successful in their efforts even
when the leader was not present. The democratic leader’s use of
participatory approaches and decision-making by majority rule worked
to instruct and involve the members of the group, allowing them to
perform effectively regardless of whether or not the leader was there
(Likert, 1967). These qualities of democratic leadership may help
explain, at least in part, why employee empowerment has become such a
prevalent trend in many different types of firms.
This early work gave the impression that leaders approached their
positions either autocratically or democratically.
