Disaster and It Effects
❖ What troubling situations reminded you of the scenarios? Share your feelings and
opinions that you had related to the conditions as shown in the illustrations. (Write your
thoughts and ideas below)
When the COVID-19 struck the Philippines, I thought to myself, “How sad to have
a pandemic… It is the perfect time to visit my family and cousins in Manila. But now… I
can’t go because of COVID-19” At first, I still hoped that maybe the lockdowns would be
turned down after a week or a month, but I was wrong. During those days of lockdowns, I
am here in Bicol with my aunties, and we are financially unstable, so we need to find ways
to lessen our food consumption. Every day, although my family in Manila is economically
stable (I guess), I am still worried about their health, especially my 72 years old
grandmother, who was very sick at that time. Experiencing that situation makes me feel
hopeless, so I always cry silently because I don’t want others to see me crying. I feel weak,
lonely, and completely devastated by our situation. And just like these illustrations, we can
see how chaotic our situation was during this pandemic. We are all worried; we all cry and
beg for mercy from our God. Witnessing these situations in my eye opens my mind to
always show compassion to those who suffer in this Pandemic.
Furthermore, I also believe that we need to trust each other during this crisis. Let us
follow our government and their health protocols, let us help those people in need, and let
us practice social distancing every time we go out in our houses. After all, it is not the
vaccine that will fill the puzzle for a Covid-free world; it is our cooperation and trust in
one another.
