Most of us have probably heard that some teachers utilize a particular teaching style, while
others use various styles. For example, some teachers are great at breaking down complex topics
in smoother steps, while others are better at discussing similar material intimately. Likewise,
some teachers are better at motivating their students, while others are better at managing class
dynamics. It seems that after we hear a commendable teaching style, we tend to think that the
foremost important point is the teacher, and not the student’s learning approaches. This essay
will outline the arguments of why students’ learning approaches and attitudes to study are more
important for achievement during a subject than the style of teaching.
The argument is that the teacher can utilize a specific teaching style that has the best impact on
the education of the scholars. As Lathan (2016) claims the power of the teacher to utilize a
specific style is more important than the style itself. this can be because students learn
differently, and it is the teacher’s role to spot their learning styles and tailor their teaching
accordingly. It should be noted that the flexibility of a lecturer to utilize a selected style is vital.
In many subjects, it is necessary to break down complex topics that are easier to grasp. this can
be particularly the case in science and arithmetic, where the teacher must make complex
processes and ideas more relatable. the power to utilize a specific style is one of the tools that
may be wont to achieve this.
In recent years, there has been much focus on the importance of independent learning. This
emphasis on students having the ability to figure through problems and reach their conclusions
has become increasingly popular education reformers. it is easy to know why this emphasis on
independent learning is incredibly important. No one, no regardless of their age or ability, can
learn something if they are not given the chance to process information and reach their
conclusions. this can be often particularly important in an age where most information is out
there at the press of a button. Students must be able to process this information and reach their
conclusions. The most important thing a tutor can do to assist a student to learn is to make a
learning environment that is conducive to learning. claims Butler (2017). The research suggests
that a variety of learning styles means that students can learn in different ways and at their own
pace, irrespective of their background. This means that regardless of their previous educational
experience or background, all students have the potential to learn and succeed. This means that
the focus should not be on the teaching style, but on the individual learning approaches of the
students.
As students, we are all unique and this includes our learning styles. a number of us are visual
learners, some are auditory learners, and some learn best through physical experiences. The
most successful students are those who have identified their unique learning styles. The role of
the teacher is to define their learning styles and to design their teaching accordingly. The
foremost important thing a teacher can do is to create a learning environment for them that helps
them learn.
