i. To give them an understanding of how biased society has been before and even after
independence, and the social injustice being practised in different ways, like robbing
land from black people, being forced to fight in military services against their own
will, being killed, being brutally harassed by police officers, unfair trials, etc.
ii. It creates awareness in children regarding the victimization of people of colour,
showing them that whatever is happening is not new. When they go out there, they
might experience the same thing, which does not mean that they are wrong. Instead, it
is shown as a daily reminder that until they determine their destiny, they are not going
to be free.
iii. This also shows them that all humankind is similar and should be treated equally
despite colour differences. They should all be given a better education, fair trial,
suitable housing, employment opportunities, providing knowledge on self-defence.
