Mod 4 leadership assignment
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an analytical approach used in the deliverance of healthcare
that assimilates substantial studies via patient care records. Through EBP, improved services are
offered to patients with maximum safety in mind. By applying this approach to nursing,
excellence in care quality and patient results can be attained (Melnyk et al., 2009). To
implement, promote, and sustain the evidence-based practice, one must:
•
•
•
Facilitate the spirit of inquiry. In solving clinical issues, nurses must feel comfortable
asking appropriate questions promptly, following a systematic approach that will
eventually guide them to the best evidence to make practical decisions that revolve
heavily around patient-centered care
Encourage the use of a PICOT system for clinical questions. PICOT encompasses; the
population of concern, interventions related to the concerned area, comparisons,
outcomes, and time. Within the PICOT framework, data can be proficiently explored
The use of best-searched evidence is proven to be streamlined when the PICOT format is
used in database searches. Once the proof is narrowed and selected for review, the rapid
appraisal is needed for the most relevant, valid, and applicable data related to the clinical
issue at hand (Melnyk et al., 2010).
EBP should be forged into a simple process that reliably integrates proven evidence with clinical
expertise with patient preference and values at the forefront. After implementing EBP,
continuous monitoring and evaluation of successful and failed outcomes provides specific
interventions, identification of possible populations benefited, while also providing colleagues
and other organizations framework for various clinical problem-solving skills (Melnyk et al.,
2010).
