I found that number 1 (The reformer) forms most of my personality type. The reason
is that from the type description and the characteristics of type 1, I often seem to act or have
behaviors aligned with it. I have a high standard of ethical standing and often am told that I
am very self-disciplined. I am often very dedicated to my duties and my goals to ensure that I
achieve everything that I undertake, and always aim at being the best and bringing the best of
other people that I interact with.
The knowledge of my personality types is important in enlightening me on my
interactions with people and how I view opportunities and issues in life. Through my
understanding of the most dominant personality, I am able to also understand how I can best
interact with others to ensure more fruitful engagements. As a nurse, I feel it enables me to be
able to devise effective ways of communication with the patients and guides on the level of
interactions and rapport building with the patients and their families.
Developing emotional intelligence involves first understanding self. This test enables
me to understand myself and my perceptions and approach to interactions with others. The
results did indicate three personalities in me which highlights to me that other people also
have different personalities hence different outlook on life and situations. This understanding
enables me to appreciate other people’s views and actions in different situations and to
develop a tolerance for diversity.
Nursing as a profession involves regular interactions with individuals from different
backgrounds, personalities and often there is limited time to create a lasting understanding of
personalities. The knowledge of my different personalities is important as I can use the
knowledge to guide my response and interactions with patients, relatives, and colleagues. I
can incorporate this understanding to encourage tolerance among colleagues at work by
enlightening them of the existing differences in the personalities. Tolerance in the healthcare

environment is critical to enhancing teamwork an important factor in delivering quality
patient care. I can also utilize the knowledge to establish therapeutic nurse-patient
relationships that enable me to better understand my patients as well as their families and be
able to design better care plans that address their specific needs of care.
In summary, the enneagram test provided me a window through which I am able to
better understand my actions, beliefs, and motivation to achieve in life. I was also able to
establish an effective understanding of the existing diversities in personalities from one
individual to another as well as the existence of multiple personalities. This knowledge does
enrich me with an ability to better interact with others as well as develop more
accommodative behavior and actions.
