.Nursing School Application Essay
I have through personal experiences, experienced the importance of nurses and other medical care team
members in the restoration of health, not only physical but also mental and social wellbeing. Having worked at a
pawn shop, I have interacted with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities. This experience
has enabled me to develop excellent interpersonal and communication skills of which I firmly believe will enable
me to become an outstanding nurse. Excellent communication skills and keen on details is critical in collecting
essential cues for holistic patient care. My understanding of different cultures and backgrounds will add to my
nursing career and strengthen me in providing transcultural and culturally competent nursing care to patients. I
volunteer at a children’s hospital in Texas during my free time. My interaction with children in need of care, has
strengthened my interest and resolve in establishing a caring environment. This attitude of care, I feel will be
beneficial in ensuring a care-based approach when nursing my patients. My experience with breast cancer has
grown in me a strong belief in God and resilience in providing health care. This experience coupled with my strong
sense of duty, respect and initiative form a combination of skills that I firmly believe will play a critical role in
building an outstanding nursing career. My strong believe in preventive health will add to my other qualities as it
will enable me to ensure patient education and participate in future health research to establish better disease
prevention strategies.
I have an active approach to learning. I am enthusiastic about learning and understanding the key subject
matters taught and internalizing the meanings as an integral part of my thinking. I endeavor to achieve new
knowledge through self-directed research and deductive learning. This approach has in the past enabled me to gain
knowledge in diverse areas. I enjoy interactive lessons with critical thinking and analysis as well as problemsolving approaches to learning.

I strongly believe in the practical application of knowledge as the most efficient method to learn. During
my experience managing the pawn shop, I realized I learned more through practice than theory. Practical
application of knowledge not only strengthens remembrance but also enables me to apply knowledge to different
real-life experiences.
To improve in areas of academic weakness, I will ensure a cordial relationship with faculty to access extra
tuition in areas of weakness. My belief is strongly rooted in learning through active engagement, so apart from the
faculty, I will spend extra hours studying, utilize the valuable library resources available and engage both clinical
and course advisors available at the campus to enable me to improve. I will also participate in group discussions
with course mates to learn more on specific units.
My mother has been my greatest encouragement and support. She raised me as a single mother and has
strived to support me in all my ambitions. She was and has continued to support me in both academic, professional
and social ventures. I receive considerable support from my church members who have also played a critical role in
supporting me through my experience with breast cancer. I find encouragement in the church pastor who is a huge
motivational speaker, counselor and life coach. My small group of friends also provide a shoulder to lean on and
form a strong part of my social support.
