I’ve always felt that assessment should serve the student first and foremost, rather than
the instructor. I recognize that instructors need to know how their students are doing and that
this is an integral part of the evaluation process. On the other hand, assessment of learning is
less crucial than assessment for learning. When it comes to assisting a student’s success, the
goal is to demonstrate what they can do to improve or perform better. I have incorporated
some learning modules in the lesson, including YouTube videos, a textbook, a PowerPoint
presentation, and handouts. As a facilitator, I need to make sure that these modes of teaching
are effective; the learners are grasping as much as possible. In addition, the modes need to
help achieve the class’s objectives as they had been predetermined.
Assessing YouTube Videos
Following the viewing of the video, I would utilize formative assessment approaches
such as in-class face-to-face questions to assess the students’ knowledge of the course goals.
My formative evaluation will reveal what students are learning as they proceed and will assist
me in planning my next step in the cultural teaching element. While watching the video, I
would urge the children to jot down any festivities and holidays they recognize, including
those from their own cultures. Learners’ comments will offer me insight into their learning
and help me plan my next instructional steps as their instructor. I’d also urge students to
evaluate and report on their knowledge and comprehension of the clip and how it related to
previous lessons.
Assessing PowerPoint Presentation
I will be teaching using a PowerPoint presentation. Using PowerPoint presentations
engages multiple learning styles, increases visual impact, improves learners’ focus, Analyses
and synthesizes complexities, increases spontaneity and interactivity, and increases wonder.
As a facilitator, I feel like the advantages compelled me to use this teaching format. In the
course of my lecture, I will interject with questions and allow group discussions between the
classes to allow them to understand more. Different questions will be placed in between the
presentations, and the students will be expected to give a presentation from their discussions.
