LESSON PREVIEW/REVIEW (10 MINUTES)
It is great to see you again my dear students for this day filled with learning. For now, I want to check on how you
remembered our lesson last meeting. Please take about 2 minutes to answer the questions in activity 1.
Activity 1 (Lesson Review)
Answer the following questions briefly:
1. What does the research indicate about the benefits of yoga?
– Studies have found that yoga lowers risk factors for heart disease such as body mass index (BMI), cholesterol, and
blood pressure. Yoga can also reduce changes in blood vessels that contribute to heart disease.
2. Why is posture important when practicing yoga?
– People with bad posture or dysfunctional movement patterns often have poor proprioception, which has been linked to
knee problems and back pain.
Magnificent! Keep going! But, what about trying to work on another one before the main lesson!

Activity 2 (Lesson Preview)
1. How would you define hypnosis?
– Hypnosis is often described as a dream state, best expressed as a state of focused attention, heightened suggestion,
and vivid fantasies.
2. What are some of the criteria which you may suggest in finding a hypnotherapist?
– A hypnotherapist needs to be able to tell the client what he is going to do during the session; what they expect from the
customer; how the whole process will go and what they want to achieve.
3. Do you think hypnosis could be used as a therapeutic treatment? Justify your answer.
– yes, Because Hypnosis has been shown to have medical and therapeutic benefits, particularly in reducing pain and
anxiety, and it has even been suggested that hypnosis can alleviate the symptoms of dementia.
4. Do you believe faith can heal? Explain.
Yes, Faith healing is a method of treating illness through the practice of faith rather than medical methods. In my
case, I believe that faith can heal but by the help of doctors or with efforts.
5. Besides Jesus, is there anyone known for spiritual healing? Justify your answer.
– I believe there’s also an enemy doing the same thing as Jesus did. There are also false prophets acting or doing
some miracles.
MAIN LESSON (30 minutes) Hypnosis
•
Hypnosis is a mind–body technique that focuses on awareness and attention to internal stimuli, much like what is
learned during meditation.
•
When under hypnosis, people feel calm and relaxed, which allows them to concentrate more closely on a specific
thought, memory, feeling, or sensation.
•
Therapeutic hypnosis is used to promote health and is different from entertainment-type stage hypnosis.
•
Hypnosis can help people learn to master their own states of awareness.
Philosophies Regarding How Hypnosis Function
•
Neodissociation Model: suggests that hypnosis activates a subsystem of both psychological and physiologic
parts. This activation results in an altered state of consciousness.
•
Social Psychological Model:
•
hypnosis is explained by suggestibility, positive attitudes, and expectations.
•
suggests that an altered state of consciousness does not occur during hypnosis; instead, hypnosis is explained by
suggestibility, positive attitudes, and expectations.
There are Several Stages of Hypnosis.
Absorption Stage: As a participant is being hypnotized, he or she will become very relaxed. Hence, the participant
will gain the capacity to deeply contemplate a selected theme or focal point. Absorption helps the person to become
deeply engaged in the words or images that the hypnotherapist presents.
Dissociation stage: The participant can let go of critical thoughts and gain the capacity to compartmentalize his or
her experience.
The next stage occurs when the participant is responding to or complying with a hypnotherapist’s suggestion.
The last stage is when the participant returns to usual awareness and reflects on the experience.
Three Conditions Need to be Present
(a) an affinity must exist between the patient and the hypnotherapist
(b) the environment must be suitable
(c) the patient must be willing to be hypnotized.

Hypnosis as Therapeutic Treatment • Hypnotherapy has been described as a state of “heightened awareness” in which
suggestions, as posed by the therapist or through autosuggestion (i.e., self-hypnosis), are more likely to be followed
(Burton Goldberg Group, 1993).
• The goal is to access the unconscious mind, which is believed to be less critical and more likely to accept
suggestion.
• Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of hypnosis in treating cancer and cancer pain, burn pain,
fibromyalgia pain, and gastrointestinal disorders such as duodenal ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome.
• Hypnosis has been helpful in treating nausea and vomiting during cancer chemotherapy, pregnancy-induced
nausea, and asthma, and has been used to help people who are obese lose weight.
Risks of Hypnosis
• Hypnosis is considered safe when conducted under the care of a trained therapist.
• Adverse reactions might occur but they are rare; they could include headache, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, panic,
and even the creation of false memories.
Contraindications for the use of hypnotherapy include epilepsy, depression, organic psychiatric conditions, antisocial
personality disorders, and severe psychosis.
How to Find a Hypnotherapist?
Most hypnotherapists are physicians, registered nurses, social workers, family counselors, psychiatrists, or psychologists
who have received additional training in hypnotism.
Biofeedback
• Biofeedback is a mind–body intervention used by many professions to train people to improve their health by using
their own body’s electrical signals from the muscles or brain.
• Biofeedback training uses electronic equipment to assess and monitor a patient’s ability to gain control over a
symptom or function.
• The aim is for the patient to control the stress response when not connected to the machine •
Physical
therapists use it to help stroke victims regain movement in paralyzed muscles.
• Health educators use biofeedback when teaching stress management.
• Once control is mastered, the patient is able to recognize early symptoms and take appropriate measures to
minimize or alleviate them
Effectiveness of Biofeedback
• Biofeedback seems to be effective for a range of health and medical problems. For example, biofeedback helps
treat urinary incontinence and may also help people with fecal incontinence.
• Thermal biofeedback has been found to ease the symptoms of Raynaud’s disease (a condition that causes reduced
blood flow to fingers, toes, nose, or ears) and EMG biofeedback has been shown to help people with fibromyalgia.
• Biofeedback has also been used effectively in children. For example, EEG biofeedback revealed significant
reduction in cortical stimulation in children with attention deficit disorder
Spirituality
•
•
•
•
•
It may be considered an inner sense of believing that something is greater than oneself or some sense that there
is a meaning to existence that is higher than oneself.
As an example, Alcoholics, Anonymous and other similar groups use the concept of a “higher power” to help people
overcome addictions.
Scientists have been inspired to use modern scientific tools and methods to test the power of prayer to cure others.
Formally, studies of the mind and health healing are considered noetic science.
“Noetic” means the power of inner knowing, and is a branch of metaphysics.
Distant healing- involves people praying for and healing others great distances away. It is also known as
intercessory prayer.

You did a great job class! I hope that you will be inspired to strive in studying so that you will be occupying some of the
positions of the various areas of pharmacy practice and at the same time to possess the traits of a ten star pharmacist.
It’s time now to help you track how much work you have accomplished and how much work there is left to do, let’s track
your progress. Simply encircle the session you have finished today in the tracker below.
AL Strategy: MINUTE PAPER
Before we call it a day kindly bring out and write on a half sheet of paper written feedback to the following questions given
below. Conversely, instruct the students to file out towards the exit door and collect the “minute papers” as students depart
from the room. Respond to students’ feedback during the next class meeting or as soon as possible
Most meaningful or important thing they learned from this session: (Why did they find it meaningful or important?)
