MANAGEMENT OF PTSD
2
Management of Paul presenting with PTSD post six months of exposure.
The best management approach for the above client is family-based cognitivebehavioral therapy (CBT). This therapeutic approach will enable Paul to recognize
thinking ways that keep him stuck in the memories of his past with the help of his family
members, including the two children who have been affected by their father’s condition.
For instance, Paul’s condition worsens when he flashbacks to the car accident.
Therefore, CBT will produce the best medical outcome for him. Paul shall be
encouraged to talk about his feelings and thoughts and what is disturbing
him(Bleiberg&Markowitz,2019). Since CBT focuses on certain areas, Paul shall be
asked to do some activities such as reading or practice, which build on whatever he has
learned during the regular therapy.
For Paul’s case scenario, the interpersonal therapy approach will also benefit him
alongside CBT and medications (for anxiety and insomnia). Interpersonal therapy will
focus on the relationships between Paul and other people. Interpersonal therapy will help
Paul because he is currently detached from the outside world, and he is not ready to
interact with the public. He is also finding difficulty in interacting with family. Paul
should be given drugs acting against anxiety and insomnia to stop him from panicking
and lacking sleep. The above approaches will help Paul reshape harmful and inaccurate
thinking (Peace, 2021). Treat Paul with prazosin to minimize nightmares. For insomnia
and anxiety, manage Paul with paroxetine and sertraline.
