UberCab: The Beginning
In 2009, Camp was still the CEO of StumbleUpon, but he began working on UberCab as a side project. That
summer, Camp persuaded Kalanick to join UberCab as its “chief incubator.” The service was tested in New
York in early 2010, and it went live in San Francisco in May.
In early 2010, Ryan Graves, the company’s first general manager, was named CEO. In December 2010,
Kalanick was named CEO, while Graves was named general manager and senior vice president of Global
Operations.
The app’s popularity soared as a result of its ease of use. A ride could be ordered by pressing a button, and the
cost was promptly charged to the user’s card. The San Francisco-based corporation quickly grew to become one
of the most fashionable. Uber was requested for the first time in 2010 and was launched internationally less than
two years later in Paris. 1
