The Bahamas’ future growth is mapped out in the National Development Plan: Vision 2040. Over the coming
decades, the Plan drives government decisions and investment.
Vision 2040 is a government program produced by the Economic Development and Planning Unit (EDPU) in
association with the Inter-American Development Bank and The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and
Employers Confederation. Comprehensive study, analysis, and public input led the Plan’s four primary policy
pillars: economy, governance; social policy; and environment (Natural and Built).
Parliament has yet to ratify the National Plan’s second draft. However, ministries are gradually adapting this tool
to their tasks. Simultaneously, the UNDP’s RIA approach aligns this plan with the SDGs by 88 percent.
EDPU then monitors and evaluates the National Development Plan, with help from the Government and Public
Policy Institute of the University of Bahamas.
The National Development Plan: Vision 2040 is still in draft form and has not been approved by Parliament, but
ministries are utilizing it to guide their work and adapt it to their duties.
