National Development Plan: Vision 2040, is a blueprint for the future of The Bahamas. Decision-making and
investment in future decades are guided by the Plan’s comprehensive policy framework.
It is the goal of the Bahamas Government’s Economic Development and Planning Unit (EDPU) to implement
Vision 2040, a project established in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank and the Bahamas
Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation of the Bahamas. Large-scale research and analysis, as
well as a broad range of input from interested citizens, helped shape this strategy to address four key policy
pillars: the economy, government, social welfare and the environment (Natural and Built).
Parliament has not yet adopted the National Plan, which is in its second draft. Ministers are, however, now use
this technology to direct their work and tailor it to their specific tasks. In addition, the UNDP’s RIA approach
was used to align this plan with the SDGs, and the results reveal an 88% degree of agreement.
The National Development Plan’s monitoring and evaluation process is then carried out by EDPU, with the aid
of the Government and Public Policy Institute of the University of the Bahamas in the monitoring and
assessment process.
However, even though Parliament has yet to ratify the second edition of the National Development Plan: Vision
2040, ministries are already utilizing this tool to direct their work and adapt it to their specific tasks. *
