The Bahamas’ future growth is outlined in the National Development Plan: Vision 2040. The Plan offers a broad
policy framework to guide government decision-making and investment over the next few decades.
The Bahamas’ Economic Development and Planning Unit (EDPU) produced Vision 2040 in collaboration with
the Inter-American Development Bank and the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation.
The Plan is informed by rigorous study, analysis, and public input focused at tackling four major policy pillars:
the economy, governance, social policy, and the environment (Natural and Built).
Parliament has not yet adopted the National Plan, which is now in its second draft. Ministries, on the other hand,
are presently utilizing this technology to direct their work and adapt it to their roles. At the same time, using
UNDP’s RIA approach, this Plan has been aligned with the SDGs, resulting in an 88 percent match.
The National Development Plan is then monitored and evaluated by EDPU, with the Government and Public
Policy Institute of the University of the Bahamas providing support in the monitoring and review process.
* Despite the fact that the National Development Plan: Vision 2040 is still in draft form and has yet to be
adopted by Parliament, ministries are utilizing it to guide their work and adapt it to their duties.
