The Economic Development and Planning Unit (EDPU) of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs are currently collaborating on the national process for developing The Bahamas’
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) review, which is currently in the process of being completed. Although
there is widespread agreement that these institutional frameworks must be enhanced and codified in order to
ensure that all sectors of society are better involved in and take ownership of the Sustainable Development
Goals, there is also widespread agreement that they must be codified. To this end, the government is
establishing the Sustainable Development Goals Technical Committee, which will be comprised of
representatives from various government ministries and agencies, the private sector, civil society, and academia.
The committee’s mission will be to ensure that the Sustainable Development Goals are fully implemented and
that the three dimensions of sustainable development are fully integrated into all aspects of economic, social,
and environmental policy.
No one will be left behind
Recognized and getting help are individuals and organizations that have been disenfranchised or have not reaped
the full rewards of the country’s victories. The National Development Plan’s guidelines and implementation
framework for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include a primary goal of increasing the resilience of
these populations, which is reflected in the guidelines and implementation framework for the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). Consider the need of developing programs that address the root causes of poverty
and unemployment in the country, as well as the consequences of these factors. These programs must take into
account the unique issues that affect the elderly and at-risk children, as well as the many different but linked
issues that confront men and women. This means applying a gendered lens to policy solutions as well as the
development and implementation of programs. Within the country, there are also geographical disparities, with
some of the most susceptible settlements being located on the more sparsely populated islands of The Bahamas,
while others are located on the island of New Providence, which is one of the country’s oldest and most historic
cities. Therefore, the government established “Over the Hill Community” as a pilot project for a comprehensive
poverty alleviation strategy that focuses on social and economic empowerment, revitalization, smart and green
technology, programs for youth and the elderly. This project was developed in collaboration with civil society,
higher education, and business.
