The methodology and procedure for preparing the review are outlined below.
A combined effort between the Economic Development and Planning Unit (EDPU) of the Prime Minister’s
Office (OPM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was crucial in organizing and coordinating the process for the
drafting of The Bahamas’ national review. The EDPU, which serves as the primary point of contact for the
National Development Plan (NDP), is responsible for ensuring and monitoring the implementation of the SDGs
at the national, local, and Ministerial levels, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge of continuing to
monitor SDG-related initiatives at the international level, according to the UN Development Programme
(UNDP). Officers from different government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as well as representatives
from civil society organizations, academia, and the corporate sector, have all lent their support to this
partnership. The official formation of a Technical Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals would help
to enhance the institutional arrangements in the long run.
The development of this study was made possible by the collaboration of two important organizations. In the
first instance, through a grant to the University of The Bahamas, the UNDP has supported the compilation of an
SDG country report in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister as well as the preparation of a
statistical compendium of Tier 1 SDG Indicators, an advocacy plan for an SDG program of action and a
thematic report on mechanisms to ensure that no one is left behind. The University of The Bahamas provided
assistance with the development of this paper, among other things.
Two partnerships have been formed: one with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and
the Caribbean (UN ECLAC), which will provide technical assistance through a grant from the German
government and the German Society for International Cooperation to conduct a needs assessment for the
improvement of ongoing SDG statistical reporting and another with the development of institutional
arrangements to support the ongoing SDG monitoring process.
