Mindset Across Cultures
Having a Global Mentality is the ability to see things from multiple perspectives. Because of
how well-developed this talent was in the project, my coworkers noted that I had an attractive
global mindset. I needed to focus on developing unity within diversity and a better grasp of
group dynamics before realizing my potential in a team. After applying for the gathering leader
post, I received the honour. To begin with, I was intimidated by the project’s breadth and size, as
well as the variety of tasks and people it would require of me. On the other hand, I saw this as a
fantastic opportunity to learn and grow as someone who is naturally curious.
A leader must be able to set the tone and give direction even in the face of obstacles such as
misunderstandings due to a lack of communication or a nonchalant attitude toward group work.
Other hurdles include the absence of physical or online meetings. Despite this, I felt that my role
was frequently misinterpreted during this project. Because of my presumption that everyone’s
employment was the same, I began to see myself as a resource for and a recipient of assistance.
There were times when I felt compelled to go beyond my “pioneering” duty, such as initiating all
gathering conversations and advising others rather than waiting for the group to agree as I was
meant to. One of my former coworkers once used the term “universal person” to describe me. I
overestimated my abilities and put myself under unnecessary pressure, making me feel terrible.
0.3 Authenticity.
Having this quality means that you are trustworthy and credible. As a perfectionist and a
trustworthy person, I was continuously exhausted and overworked because I was supposed to
perform credible and real work. When it comes to meeting the needs of others, I have problems
being willing or am easily distracted from my own. It would have been better if assignments
were made based on each person’s interests, inclinations, and abilities. Finally, there was a
mistake—a two-way exchange of information. The assignment needed me to work with six
people, two of whom were international students with limited English ability, and make sure I
was trustworthy. Due to my lack of experience dealing with people from different cultures, I
predicted this would be challenging and that effective communication would be crucial to my
success. As a result of my work, I have obtained a tremendous deal of information.
Before the project, others told me that I needed to improve my ability to communicate effectively
with the team about the project’s goals. I made it a point to keep everyone on the same page
throughout the entire endeavour. My greatest efforts failed to bring up a global component,
which remained inaccessible for an extended period without explanation. I was overwhelmed by
the sheer number of activities and deadlines I had to meet in high school. I was relieved to have
this issue brought to light since I could voice my concerns and know that my professor would
care for them. As a result, I was able to identify them and avoid blaming myself for their
existence. The best way to minimize snags and problems is to figure out how to collaborate and
communicate effectively and reliably before starting any project. The project necessitated a high
degree of cooperation among the participants. My colleagues praised my ability to communicate
concisely and effectively.
Individuals at my workplace describe me as an effective manager and a person who enjoys
speaking up for what is right. In their comments, they affirmed this, saying that I am always
concerned about the feelings of others. I’m great at getting the best out of others, even when
there’s a language barrier, cultural difference, lack of communication, or a careless attitude about
group effort. But because I was so happy, other members helped me with the project’s clerical
work. People who know me can help me get the supplies I need to complete the task. Being in
charge of getting everyone on board with our goal of finishing the project fell to me as the
group’s leader.
0.4 Ability to recognize and manage one’s own emotions
It’s important to have the ability to handle differences in working patterns and behaviour and the
self-awareness that comes with working with people from various cultures. Even though they
had no idea how the rest of the team felt, our project group persisted. For example, two of the
participants were unaware of the online meeting. My rage was directed toward the members of
the group in question. However, I was able to maintain my composure. I’ve found that setting
norms for group mindfulness can help me better understand others and improve my capacity to
collaborate effectively with others in a group setting. This includes monitoring people’s
passionate moods, traits and flaws, interactions with others, and ability to complete a specific
task. Groups can gain it in two ways: through self-evaluation or by enlisting the help of others.
I conducted self-evaluations frequently. The group’s top leaders met to discuss a new initiative
that required more cooperation. Some of the problems I encountered were a lack of
communication and a lackadaisical attitude toward the group’s job. It was important for us to get
together before the members arrived at strategizing about enhancing communication and how we
approach the group in general. Emotional intelligence and recognizing what was causing them
problems were critical first steps in the rehabilitation process.
Given our wide knowledge and genuine interest in cultural diversity, I regularly encouraged my
colleagues to join a cross-functional multi-cultural experience group I led as the project’s leader.
On the other hand, my coworkers see me as an organized worker who always gets things done on
time.
During early brainstorming sessions, I would sit with my arms folded and a look of irritation on
my face. A comparable proposal had previously failed, which sparked my colleagues’ curiosity
about the current concept. No one in the group knew I was unsatisfied with how the group was
organized. This project will require enormous emotional intelligence to succeed since the team’s
improved communication and attitude were lauded amongst themselves. This time, they decided
to hold a three-day group meeting for only one section of the group. The problem was that the
group was already overwhelmed with extraneous difficulties, and I was afraid of losing my
temper. The collective project was on the point of breaking up. As the gang members thought
they were the best, they resented everyone else’s attempts to pull them down.
Furthermore, it’s irrational, to begin with, such a name. That was my line of thinking. We were
all baffled. One of the most important features that folks should comprehend is how it gives a
group a strategic advantage by improving communication, collaboration, cooperation, and
execution. Diverse abilities, in my opinion, are essential to our ability to maintain concentration.
This shows that emotional intelligence is important not just for organizations but also for the
project participants themselves. Expectations for growth, commitment, productivity, and other
important traits have been blown out of the water. A clearer understanding of the situation allows
members to act and think in ways that boost their cultural acceptability and improve English
proficiency for the two international colleagues. To better communicate with people from
various cultural backgrounds, I sought out experiences that would help me hone my cultural
intelligence. Training programs benefited from this since they provided a financial incentive to
offer personalized instruction.
