Dear X, I was interested by your post to look at the cowboys and read that cowboy
mantra has a Spanish origin and seemingly referred to a simply to the headers who tended
cows over large tracts of land riding on horse backs. I agree with your assertations that
western films that depicted cowboys as the bad boys on horse backs with revolvers on their
waist and ten-gallon harts has immortalized this image of the cowboy. I also feel that this is
an image that will not go away (and I would hate for this to go!).
I do feel that the cowboy has now been entrenched into the USA history and is one of
our hallmarks as a country. We have such famous entities as the Dallas cowboys a successful
American Football team named after the cowboys. That cowboys back then never really wore
the ten-gallon hats is an interesting find that has clarified my history knowledge for better.
